Merry Christmas, all

It’s Christmas break here, and I’m taking a break, with visits from family and friends, and then a trip to the USA for a holiday (and for a couple of little side trips to see friends and give a few talks). More about that in a little while.
To share the Christmas spirit, I’ll share a favourite carol:
The tree of life my soul hath seen,
Laden with fruit and always green:
The trees of nature fruitless be
Compared with Christ the apple tree.His beauty doth all things excel:

The glory which I now can see

The plan is to reboot the blog (and to fix the comment system, which is down for the count just now) for 2009. We’ll see how we go with that.

Philosophy aims at the logical clarification of thoughts. Philosophy is not a body of doctrine but an activity. A philosophical work consists essentially of elucidations. Philosophy does not result in ‘philosophical propositions’, but rather in the clarification of propositions. Without philosophy thoughts are, as it were, cloudy and indistinct: its task is to make them clear and to give them sharp boundaries.
